Story written by Chris Dalton, Farmville, VA
Polar Plunge..."Brrrr" When I got my first Harley-Davidson from Lynchburg Harley, I had no idea of the adventures I would experience. Being a HOG member nationally and locally as well as a Cruiser Club member has opened my eyes to a world of fun and excitement around every bend in the road.
On Feb. 7th, a group that I ride with and some parents and athletes from area 12 Special Olympics took part in the 17th Annual Polar Plunge that was taking place in VA Beach. I have wanted to do this but never had the opportunity. After our successful fundraiser in Oct. of 2008 for our local Special Olympics, we decided to continue on our involvement and take it to a different level..."water level".
The water was cold; the air was warmer, but still in the 40's. Along with approximatley 3200 other plungers, we took the plunge. Just being on the beach warmed your heart. Everything else was cold, but knowing that the monies raised would be helping athletes achieve goals that otherwise would be left unattainable, overrode any other feelings or lack thereof.
On Sept 12th of 2009, The Cruiser Club Chapter 30 will be putting on their 2nd Annual Specials Bikers for Special Olympics in Farmville. We will have 2 poker runs, bike show, bike wash, 50/50 drawings, food and fun as well as an exhibition by the Area 12 Special Olympics. That night we will have a dance with the Janitors playing. Door prizes, cake auction, more drawings, and baked goods will be available. Day activities start at 10am. Doors open for the dance at 7pm.
As always a BIG THANKS to HD of Lynchburg for all of their support. My experiences would be limited without my two wheels...both of them! |
